Treatment of Chronic Diseases
Once the decision to implement alternative medicine and the treatment of chronic diseases has been made, autoimmune disorders such as fibromyalgia, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis may come to mind. Due to the almost constant pain and fatigue that is characteristic of autoimmune disorders, these must be treated first and effectively in order to allow the individual to function more normally. The underlying causes of these disorders are thought to be from nutritional deficiencies, extreme stress, and exposure to toxins in the home or environment. The prescription for treatment is soothing exercises such as swimming, walking, yoga and stretching to keep the muscles limber and the endorphins high, thereby reducing pain dramatically. Nutrition and stress reducing exercises may also be prescribed as well as natural herbs.
Other common conditions that may warrant alternative medicine and the treatment of chronic conditions are diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, and milder chronic conditions such as, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), insomnia, psoriasis and lower back pain. All of these may be treated by natural and medical means again working hand in hand with a physician and alternative medical approaches, which may not only treat but cure the condition. Additionally, many common diseases can be prevented from occurring in the first place simply by educating oneself on the rules of proper nutrition, exercise, and how to reduce every day stressful situations.
